Dozens of Miami Gardens residents turned out for the grand reopening of the “new and improved” Lester Brown Park. Celebrants included the youth football team and cheerleader squad, their families and friends, and individuals involved in the transformation of the park: City of Miami Gardens Mayor Rodney Harris; the City’s administrative managers and Parks & Recreation staffers; Benny Bejar, Bejar Construction president; and SRS team members Manny Synalovski, Steve Hatzidakis, Javier Reboyras, and intern Maria Hatzidakis.

The new building includes administrative offices, equipment storage, locker rooms, rest rooms, and a covered patio for community events.

Under the leadership of Miami Gardens governance in recent months, the voices of neighborhood residents and other community groups were heard and responded to by improving the park’s infrastructure, amenities, and security concerns including new fencing and controlled gated entry points.

Football team and cheerleader squad members and their families and friends celebrated the opening in high style.

Named for renowned educator and community activist Dr. Lester B. Brown, the park is distinguished by a legendary football field and 600-seat stadium. Recent improvements include a multipurpose community center with a food concession stand and upsized restrooms to accommodate stadium events. The building also houses administrative offices, athletic and other equipment storage, locker rooms, and a covered patio. Elsewhere in the park, family and neighbor get-togethers are welcomed by a picnic pavilion, playground, and covered shelter. Fields, walking paths, and increased parking have also been upgraded and enhanced by sabal palms, oak trees, flowering hedges, and ground-cover plantings.
