Palm Beach State College
Lake Worth, FL
Founded in 1933, Palm Beach State College, Florida’s very first public community college, today serves more than 40,000 students online and on five campuses in Palm Beach County: Lake Worth, Boca Raton, Palm Beach Gardens, Belle Glade, and Loxahatchee Groves. Modernization of four campuses began with meetings of the SRS team and academic, administrative, and building management members to analyze educational programmatic objectives. With consensus success, SRS developed architectural drawings, construction documents, and a budget.
Monitoring every stage of the obligatory demolition and the complex technological installation and reconstruction, SRS played a supervisory role. Among the upgrades are connectivity to and placement of new digital features, such as state-of-the-art viewing screens and computer stations, in addition to advanced energy-efficient lighting, removal and replacement of bygone flooring and window coverings, installation of safer and more sustainable materials, and strategic improvement of power sources and accessibility.
Processes involved removal and replacement of all ceilings. Utility services were disconnected, wire by wire and hook-up by hook-up, and replaced. Items of salvageable value were removed, cleaned, and either stored or reinstalled. When encountered, hazardous materials were removed in a safe manner, protecting against harmful exposure or environmental pollution. All structural, mechanical, and electrical conditions of the project were monitored for safety, efficiency, and installation accuracy. The firm also selected floor finishes, paint colors, furnishings, glazing products, and installation of built-in cabinetry, tabletops, and counter spaces for multiple computer stations.
With an even greater renewal of resources, Palm Beach State College graduates continue to populate the economic engine of the area, pumping $1.1 billion into the County of Palm Beach annually.
